Business Development Manager – Financial Restructuring

Overview

The Business Development Manager will leverage their research, writing, and analytical skills to support the firm in executing business development and marketing initiatives. This position involves working closely with attorneys across all offices and other members of the Global Business Development team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Practice Group Leaders on developing strategic priorities and drafting business development plans, including goals, action items, and deadlines. Advise and collaborate with partners, the Business Development & Marketing teams, and other internal stakeholders in the execution of these practice group plans.
  • Manage the Opportunity Pipeline for the practice by:
    • Identify new business opportunities for expanding the client relationship in a proactive manner by monitoring and reporting on trends and issues impacting the selection of external counsel.
    • Maintain pipeline of opportunities, track results of pitches and proposals, provide timely ideas and other support to ensure consistent progress towards achieving BD goals.
    • Oversee the production of detailed client and industry research reports to support initiatives and client meetings, monitor publications and other sources for potential opportunities and client development, and communicate intelligence gathered to partners and lawyers on a regular basis.
    • Evaluate practice group strengths and conduct research on existing and prospective clients.
    • Prepare target lists containing internal and external metrics.
    • Prepare company reports and profiles, including background information, advisory relationships, and market intelligence utilizing internal and external data sources.
    • Monitor and track new developments in various industries and geographic regions using internal and external data sources.
  • Prepare new business pitches, presentations, and RFP responses, as well as standard global Financial Restructuring practice credentials, and serve as the lead business development point person in preparing such materials.
  • Write Legal Directory entries (Chambers, Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation…) for partner review and final submission.
  • Collaborate with the global business development team on the identification and pursuit of cross selling initiatives.
  • Evaluate practice group strengths and conduct research on existing and prospective clients, competitor activity and industry or market trends to aid in the development of business development plans, pitches, presentations, and proposals.
  • Participate in practice group meetings and prepare agendas, materials, and key takeaways/action items in connection with such meetings.
  • Team with functional specialists within Marketing & Business Development, including CRM, database marketing, PR, events, editorial services, and creative services.  Coordinate with global offices to develop market knowledge and global pitch/presentation materials.
  • Any additional responsibilities as required by management.

Qualifications

Professional experience:

  • 7+ years of relevant business development experience with 5+ years of experience in Financial Restructuring doing pitches for new business initiatives in a professional services organization, preferably in a top 200 law firm.

Specific requirements:

  • The position requires a high-energy and motivated team player who is also able to work independently as the business development lead for partners engaged in Financial Restructuring work.
  • The individual must be able to adapt to change, balance competing demands, and manage demands outside of traditional business hours.
  • Ability to handle a wide variety of responsibilities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven work experience as a supervisor or manager.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills and the ability to process information from a wide variety of sources.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and organizational skills with an extraordinary attention to detail.
  • Ability to negotiate individual, group, and firm-wide needs and to interface successfully with multiple levels of the global business development team, partners, associates, and professional staff.
  • Strong computer skills with various Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Expected to monitor emails outside of normal business hours and be available as needed.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, liberal arts, or related field desired. 

 

*The base salary for this position is $130,000 to $190,000. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location and performance.
