Overview
Operating within clients Business Development function, the Research & Competitive Intelligence Team is responsible for a range of services with particular emphasis on establishing and delivering research products to support partners’ go-to-market activities. The Research Analyst for the Americas region scopes and develops insightful research which informs decision making and contributes effectively to the firm’s client and business development efforts.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Global Research Lead and Research & Competitive Intelligence colleagues to support the Business Development research strategy and associated products and services (primarily, but not limited to, Client Briefs and other client-related and industry research).
- Undertake and synthesize client and industry research into insightful outputs (including Client Briefs) using a range of internal and external information sources, specialized tools and market data.
- Collaborate with outsourced research agency support to deliver Client Briefs and other research to partners in a timely fashion, managing request intake and quality assurance processes as needed.
- Coordinate the day-to-day intake of requests for client and industry research, responding to and prioritizing these on an ad hoc, project or program basis.
- Collaborate with Research & Competitive Intelligence colleagues and contribute to other research projects (including market & competitive intelligence requests) as needed.
- Act as a subject matter expert and point of contact with regard to research, keeping abreast of developments in the legal sector and wider business environment.
- Develop and deliver research products that take into account local requirements and preferences, whilst retaining a common and global approach.
- Maintain quality standards for research outputs and deliverables, gathering requester feedback on a regular basis for input into the Business Development and wider client programs.
- Work with other Business Development team members to ensure client and industry research products remain aligned with wider client strategy and the evolving needs of the firm’s clients.
- Participate in regular meetings of the Research & Competitive Intelligence team and the Business Development team, as well as in associated and relevant project meetings.
- Liaise with other business support functions as necessary in course of duties, including the Practice Development and Library & Information Services teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Post graduate qualification in an information, research or business -related discipline an advantage (but not essential).
- Proven track record of delivering business research and information in a commercial or professional services organization. Legal background an advantage (but not essential).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a business research role or similar, with a strong understanding of associated sources, techniques and technologies.
- Ability to interpret and translate business requirements into relevant research projects, products and services, co-developing these with requesters as needed.
- Confident in scoping requests effectively, gathering feedback from requesters to ensure continuous improvement in a high-performing environment.
- Good understanding of, and ability to use, both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including financial analysis skills and innovative visual techniques to display information and data.
- Progressing knowledge of effective business writing and structured thinking methodologies; able to synthesize a variety of research inputs in a concise fashion.
- Focused on drawing commercial linkages between the research undertaken and client revenue-generating opportunities.
- Excellent understanding of the critical success criteria for a high-quality research function, including ensuring that products and services are impactful and actionable.
- Ability to engage and influence relevant stakeholders and collaborate effectively with peers across regions and practice areas.
- Spanish or Portuguese language capability an advantage (but not essential).
*The base salary for this position is $80,000 to $85,000. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location and performance.
