Workday Scrum Master

Our client, a leading reinsurance company is hiring a Scrum Master on a contract basis.

Work Location: 

Warren, NJ (Hybrid office model)


The primary responsibility of the Scrum Master is to plan and manage application development for our Workday HCM system. The client seeks candidates who not only track projects progress against an agreed upon project/sprint plans but also drive the projects to successful completion via Risk Management, Resource Allocation Planning, Communication Plans, Issues Log and Change Control processes in an agile environment.

  • Act as a Scrum Master for multiple Agile teams
  • Lead, arrange and facilitate all Workday scrum ceremonies including Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives, Grooming, and Sprint & Release planning
  • Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress to all affected teams and management
  • Manage backlog and ensure it is properly prioritized and sized as appropriate
  • Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution to improve team productivity while promoting continuous improvement
  • Champion adoption of agile principles by the scrum team

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Current PMP and CSM/CSPO/CSP certifications
  • 3-5+ years recent Scrum Master experience applying agile principles, practices and theory in an agile transformation environment
  • Experience delivering projects in the Workday (or similar HCM) platform is a plus
  • Proven ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced changing environment and participate in continual process improvement
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Jira is a plus
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Experience working with onshore and offshore teams
  • Demonstrated team leadership and project management expertise
  • Possess the judgment and ability to modify project management approach based on project size, complexity and team
  • Knowledge with the Human Resources business domain and Workday (or similar HCM) platform to understand the projects and raise questions in order to help correctly steer them to completion.
  • Ability to build and maintain business relationships with employees, business partners and vendors
  • Comfortable hosting meetings with various audiences, (Developers, Analysts, management or C level positions) Self-starter that requires little direction
  • Excellent organizational skills: ability to prioritize multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Employ and enforce formalized project management processes, such as change management, issues management, risk management, SOX controls and documentation version controls
  • Manage multiple projects and production support backlog simultaneously
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives by assessing alignment of current process, programs, and systems to business requirements, and by recognizing opportunities for standardization, increased efficiency, cost reduction, increased quality, and improved user experience
  • Other Project Management Office responsibilities as assigned
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
